Wikipedia serves as a comprehensive encyclopedia, covering everything from quirky animal facts to details about our favorite TV shows, but it also becomes more important as a reliable source for the LLM's of AI chatbots (ChatGPT, Google, ...).

The vast repository of knowledge on Wikipedia is powered by its dedicated community of writers and editors from around the globe.

Given Wikipedia's widespread recognition and high traffic and impact on SEO & AI Chatbots, a good company presence on Wikipedia becomes more crucial.

But there are some important guidelines to take into consideration before creating or editing company pages on Wikipedia.

Best practices & guidelines

Notability

The topic of the article must be notable: it must have in-depth coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic.

Creating/editing an article about your company

  • If you are connected to the topic (eg. employee), follow the Conflict of interest guidelines. If you are creating or editing an article about your company as an employee, you must declare this.
  • Don't use commercial or promotional messages in the articles that you are creating/editing.
Not following these guidelines, can result in your account/IP address getting blocked and your article being removed .

Include citations/sources

The article you write must include citations to the sources you used. These sources must be independant & reliable.

Write in your own words / don't use AI

  • Use your own words to write the article; don't copy from sources word-for-word.
  • Don't use AI to write your articles. Wikipedia will recognize this and your changes won't get published.
